Chiropractors have a lot to offer and we are not all cut from the same cloth. Some chiropractors, referred to as "Straight" chiropractors use spinal adjustments as their primary treatment method. This method works quite well for millions of chiropractic patients.
I, myself, use a different method. My undergraduate degree prior to entering chiropractic school and starting my chiropractic and acupuncture practice in Newport Beach was in clinical exercise physiology / Kinesiology, which is the study of human movement- so naturally therapeutic exercise is an important part of my treatment plans for my patients.
Chiropractic adjustments are directed at restoring joint range of motion and function. Joints cannot move without muscle action. My personal philosophy is that without addressing muscular imbalances, and simply just manipulating the joints, we are missing the big picture.
So, when I tell people I am a chiropractor, I often have to explain that the treatment I provide goes beyond simply applying chiropractic adjustments. Treatment of the adjacent soft tissues and rehabilitative exercise is imperative in my opinion.
So next time you think of chiropractic, don't JUST think of chiropractic adjustments. We can offer a wide range of treatment options. Dr. Pierce is no "one trick pony". :)
